August Han River Festival: Free Must-See Highlights
From August 1 to 16, nine Hangang parks will become full-scale summer festival venues. The Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced “2026 Hangang Festival_Summer,” with the theme “A Close and Reliable Summer Retreat.” A total of 16 programs will take place at Yanghwa, Mangwon, Nanji, Yeouido, Jamsil, Ttukseom, and other locations.
What stands out is that many of the 16 programs are free. Even the paid programs range from 1,000 to 69,000 won, with the higher-priced options mainly being water leisure activities. In other words, if you simply “stop by at night,” you can enjoy the festival with almost no expense.
In this article, I’ll list the nighttime programs with confirmed dates, locations, and times in a format you can paste directly into your Seoul travel itinerary. Since reservations are handled through three separate channels, I’ll organize those at the end as well.
The highlight, the water drone show, will take place on August 1–2 at Yanghwa Hangang Park from 20:00–21:30. Admission is free. It’s a night that only those in Seoul on the first weekend of August will be able to experience.
These are the three you should know first
You don’t need to keep track of all 16 programs. From a traveler’s perspective, the best options are essentially the free programs that can be enjoyed entirely at night.
1️⃣ Hangang Summer Music Picnic (8/1–2・Lawn plaza near Yanghwa Bridge at Yanghwa Hangang Park)
A water drone show and concert will be held together, with LED lighting, fireworks, and columns of fountain water coloring the surface of the river. On the first day, the Yoon Ikyung Band and Sowat Noraband will perform jazz. On the second day, Kim Gyeol, Oh Hyunwoo, and Springs Band will perform K-POP covers such as “붉은 노을” and “그대에게.” 20:00–21:30, free.
2️⃣ Two-Day Hangang Stay-Free Event “All-Night Hangang ON” (8/8 20:00–5:00 the following day・Around Seoul Battleship Park at Mangwon Hangang Park)
Watch an all-night marathon version of the YouTube drama series 『Coffee Prince 1st Shop』 while enjoying Hangang ramen and other food. Horror films will also be screened while attendees wait for the first train. A peach-themed farm-to-table market called “Sorojang” will be held at the same time, featuring firm peaches (딱복) and soft peaches (말복) from Sangju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, as well as peach sandwiches and hwachae. Free.
3️⃣ Movies Under the Bridge (Ttukseom・Gwangjin: 8/8, 15／Yeouido: 8/8, 15, 22)
Screenings will be held from 20:00–22:00 under Cheongdam Bridge at Ttukseom Hangang Park, under Cheonho Bridge at Gwangjin Hangang Park, and under Wonhyo Bridge at Yeouido Hangang Park. The films to be screened will be announced later on the Future Hangang Headquarters website. Free.
Water play areas include performances for “the admission fee only”
The water play area (물놀이장) programs are especially interesting. There is no separate participation fee, and performances are included for just the 1,000–3,000 won water play area admission fee.
Hangang Music Pondang at Nanji Hangang Park (8/1–2 20:00–22:00) is a water concert that you can enjoy while swimming in an infinity pool with a view of the Hangang. The event will open with a DJ set by DJ Baekdi, followed on the first day by rapper Sleepy and on the second day by “Pentacle,” the winning band of the Hangang University Song Festival.
At Jamsil Hangang Park, the Han River Olspondang (8/8–9) is a performance where UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage tightrope walking can be seen over the water. Eoreumsani (tightrope performer) Han Yongseop’s performance is scheduled for 21:00–21:40. From the morning, visitors can also try slacklining by walking along a 5 cm-wide line.
A music festival watched in swimwear and tightrope walking over the water. Both are the kind of experiences that “only work if you’re there, in that place, on that day.” Bring a swimsuit and towel.
The must-see paid options are silent programs and leisure activities
The programs that may divide opinions over whether they are worth paying for are the “silent” programs using headsets and water activities.
1️⃣ Silent DJ Party (8/1, 8, 15, from 19:00・under Mapo Bridge at Yeouido Hangang Park)
A popular Han River Festival event where participants put on wireless headsets and dance to DJ music against the backdrop of the city’s night skyline. Held every Saturday during the festival period. The participation fee is 9,000 won per person, and both advance reservations and on-site registration are available. For travelers, the fact that “on-site registration is available” is a real advantage.
2️⃣ Silent Yoga (8/16 18:00・Noreundulpand at Yeouido Hangang Park)
Yoga that blocks out the surrounding sounds with a headset and enhances focus inward. Advance reservation required.
3️⃣ Water Activities in General (8/1–16・Ttukseom Hangang Park and elsewhere)
At Ttukseom Hangang Park, you can enjoy kayaking and paddleboarding throughout the period (advance reservations through Naver Store). On August 8, there will also be the “Blue Wave Challenge,” a water marathon in which participants complete the course at their own pace on a paddleboard. Since it starts with basic and safety training, beginners can participate. In addition, yachts, kayaks, Sebitseom Tube Star, and cruises will be available at 10–50% off the regular price.
The most unusual option is the “My Own Hangang Boat Race” on August 15 (9:00–18:00 in front of Jamsil Nadeureumok at Jamsil Hangang Park). Teams race back and forth across 100 m of the Han River in boats they made themselves. The fee is 20,000 won per team, with a total of 100 teams.

For children, there is also the “Hangang Water Safety Experience Class” (8/10–14), where they can tour the 119 Water Rescue Team at Banpo Hangang Park and learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation, as well as the “Hangang Summer Ecology Class” (8/1–16), where they can observe creatures living in the Hangang. Both are free to attend with advance reservations through the Seoul Metropolitan Government Public Service Reservation system.
There are three separate registration channels
This is the trickiest point. The registration channel differs for each program.

In addition, water safety experience classes and ecology classes can be booked through the Seoul Metropolitan Government Public Service Reservation. The key is to first sort out which activities you can “enter just by showing up” and which require a reservation. Some programs require reservations even though they are free, so those with fixed schedules should check the official website in advance. For inquiries, contact the Dasan Call Center (02-120).
Taking the Han River Bus is another access option
All venues can be accessed by Han River Bus. The official website has a page for “Programs to visit by taking the Han River Bus,” designed so that the journey itself can be enjoyed as part of the summer scenery along the Han River🚢
The Seoul Metropolitan Government is urging people to use public transportation, as Han River parks are expected to be extremely crowded in summer with pool and water play area users, as well as people coming out to cool off. It is best to avoid making plans that assume you can arrive by taxi.

The “2026 Han River Festival_Summer,” held from August 1–16, offers enough free programs alone to fill your evenings. On August 1–2, there will be a water drone show at 20:00 at Yanghwa Hangang Park; on weekends from August 8 onward, there will be an under-the-bridge cinema and silent DJ parties (9,000 won), while water play areas cost 1,000–3,000 won to enter and include performances.
