In short, if you’re traveling to Korea in August, you can spend a night by the Han River. From August 1 to 31, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will operate “Han River Bamping (한강 밤핑)” for the first time at Yeouido and Ttukseom Han River Parks. From 5 p.m. until 9 a.m. the following morning, the service is free.
As its name—short for Night＋Camping—suggests, this is a temporary urban campsite where you can watch the night view and welcome the morning right there. There will be 100 tents at each of the two sites, for a total of 200 tents. Advance reservations are required, and consecutive overnight stays and cooking are not allowed.

The Ttukseom site places an emphasis on cooperation with the surrounding commercial districts. Nearby shopping areas—including Ttukdo Market (뚝도시장), Yeongdonggyo Alley Market (영동교골목시장), the alley-style shopping district around Seongsu Station (성수역), and the alley-style shopping district on Konkuk University Rodeo Street (건대로데오거리)—will be introduced in Han River Park promotional materials and on the official Bamping website, along with their locations and signature foods. If you plan to walk around Seongsu or Konkuk University, Ttukseom offers a more convenient route.
What to bring and the rules
Bring a tent or a sunshade suitable for four people. If you prefer to travel light, you can rent one on-site. This is the biggest advantage for travelers: you won’t need to pack a tent in your suitcase for your trip to Korea.
On the other hand, the restrictions are clear. Consecutive overnight stays and cooking are not allowed. In other words, you cannot use the same tent for two consecutive nights, and bringing a portable stove to cook is also prohibited. Plan your schedule on the assumption that you will pack up by 9 a.m.
Delivery is the right answer for dinner
Since cooking is not possible, during the same period in August, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will run the “Seoul Baedal + Ttaenggyeoyo Han River Delivery Zone Special Discount Event” in the Han River Park delivery zones at Yeouido, Ttukseom, and Mangwon (망원). The benefits come in two parts.
1️⃣ Immediate 3,000-won discount
Designate an eligible delivery zone as the pickup location on “Seoul Baedal + Ttaenggyeoyo” and receive an immediate 3,000-won discount when ordering 25,000 won or more.
2️⃣ Rebate when paying with Seoul Love Gift Certificates
Pay 15,000 won or more with Seoul Love Gift Certificates (서울사랑상품권) and receive a 3,000-won delivery-only gift certificate; for payments of 25,000 won or more, the amount returned is 5,000 won.

How thorough is nighttime safety management?
CCTV and lighting around the campsite will be reinforced, while nighttime patrols by Han River safety officers and public safety officers will be increased. Smoking outside designated smoking areas and drinking alcohol in the pools will result in removal. For a place where people stay overnight, clearly defined rules are reassuring.
The pools are being operated along the same lines. Since June 19, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has been operating a total of six locations: the Han River pools at Yeouido and Ttukseom, and the water play areas at Jamsil (잠실), Nanji (난지), Gwangnaru (광나루), and Yanghwa (양화); the four locations at Yeouido, Ttukseom, Jamsil, and Nanji are open until 10 p.m. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, when visitor numbers increase, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, police, and safety management personnel conduct concentrated patrols.
There are 136 CCTV cameras installed at the pools and water play areas. Notices and banners warning against hidden-camera filming have been placed in changing rooms and restrooms, and safety announcements are made at least three times a day. Water quality is checked every hour through simple tests for residual chlorine, pH, and turbidity, with detailed testing conducted once a week. How to fit an overnight stay by the Han River into your Korea itinerary
The model envisioned by the Seoul Metropolitan Government is a “24-hour Han River stay” experience: visitors come to the Han River by Han River Bus (한강버스) and bicycle, enjoy the pools, performances, and festivals, then continue on to a meal and camping. From a traveler’s perspective, it means having an entire time slot open from evening until the following morning.
The setup is simple. During the day, enjoy cosmetics and treatments in Myeongdong (명동) or Seongsu (성수), then head to the Han River in the evening and check in at 5 p.m. After spending time at the pool, which is open until 10 p.m., have dinner in the delivery zone. The next morning, pack up at 9 a.m., return straight to the hotel, and take a shower—this is the most practical plan.
Editorial note: Since overnight stays on consecutive nights are not allowed, it is safest to decide in advance where to leave your luggage. Keeping your hotel reservation and spending just one night at the Han River solves both the luggage and shower issues at once.
